The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), through its Directorate of State (DOS), has encouraged Ndigbo and Biafrans to return to their homeland to celebrate the Christmas season, assuring that its Eastern Security Network (ESN) personnel will ensure safety and a peaceful atmosphere during the festive period.

According to a press statement signed by Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, the group reiterated its dedication to curbing insecurity in the South East zone and stressed its role in promoting peace and development.

IPOB highlighted that Alaigbo has historically been a peaceful region and urged all Igbos to actively contribute to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere, which is important for economic growth in the zone. The group emphasised that peace and security in the South East should not lag behind other regions in Nigeria, even as it accused the Nigerian government of worsening insecurity in the region through militarisation and alleged oppression.

“We need peace to survive as a strategic economic hub in Africa. Every Igbo man and woman must work towards fostering peace and security in Alaigbo,” says the statement.

The group reaffirmed its dedication towards securing investments in the South East and urged Igbos to bring their investments home to encourage development and provide job opportunities for the region’s youth.

IPOB cautioned hoodlums to steer clear of the South East, specifically during the Christmas season, as ESN personnel and IPOB volunteers are actively working to make the region unwelcoming for criminal activities.

IPOB also accused the Nigerian government and its security operatives of supporting insecurity as an excuse for continued militarisation of the region.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra have called for the dismantling of all indiscriminate and illegal military, police, and other checkpoints in the Southeast. These checkpoints are sources of extortion, intimidation, and harassment of travellers," the group said.
