In a message delivered on the occasion of Nigeria's 63rd Independence Anniversary, Abbas emphasized that despite the numerous challenges facing the country, he firmly believes that Nigeria will once again rise to greatness.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Krish, Abbas conveyed his message of hope. He stated, "Doomsayers and pessimists should be prepared for disappointment. Nigeria, despite its myriad of challenges, still possesses the potential to reclaim its leadership position among nations, thanks to its abundant human and natural resources."
The Speaker also appealed to the organized labor represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to reconsider their plans for an indefinite nationwide strike over welfare concerns scheduled for Tuesday. Abbas cautioned against such a strike at this critical juncture, emphasizing that it would only exacerbate the existing situation.
Instead, he urged the organized labor to engage in constructive dialogue with the Federal Government, cooperating with the authorities to find amicable solutions to their grievances. He warned of the adverse effects of the strike on the already fragile economy and stressed the importance of continued negotiations for achieving lasting results.
Abbas further expressed concern about the brain drain experienced by the country and called upon Nigerians to take responsibility for rebuilding their nation. He encouraged young Nigerians to demonstrate patriotism by utilizing their talents and skills for the nation's development.
The Speaker expressed confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, highlighting the introduction of revolutionary policies and programs. He believed that these initiatives would win the confidence not only of the youth but of all citizens.
