The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company has reduced the tariff for its Band A customers to N206.80 per kilowatt-hour from the N225/kWh approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

In a notice shared with our correspondent on Monday, the spokesperson for the IKEDC, Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion, stated that the downward tariff review for Band A customers is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 6, 2024.

The DisCo has stated that while ensuring a minimum of 20-hour daily power supply for those on Band A feeders, the tariffs of customers on other bands will not be affected.

The NERC revised the electricity tariff for Band A customers from N68 per kilowatt-hour to N255/KWh on April 3, clarifying that other customers were not impacted by the tariff increase.

Since the release of the supplementary Multi-Year Tariff Order, consumers identified as Band A have lamented the heavy financial strain caused by the rise in electricity tariffs, and are calling on the Federal Government to overturn the policy.

However, during an investigative hearing last week Monday before the Senate Committee on Power, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, cautioned that the country would face a complete blackout in the next three months if the electricity tariff hike was not put into effect.
