The Nigerian Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed his deepest sympathies to the government and indigenous peoples of Jigawa State, especially the families of the victims of the tragic tanker explosion that happened in Majia, Taura Local Government Area, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
The incident, which occurred at 11:30 pm, resulted in the deaths of over 100 individuals, while more than 70 persons sustained injuries.
According to reports, those who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical treatment at different hospitals in Jigawa State.
In a press release made available by Force Headquarters on Thursday, October 17, 2024, the IGP Egbetokun applauded the quick response of police operatives and other emergency responders in extinguishing the fire, rescuing victims, and returning the area to its usual state.
The Inspector-General of Police also prayed for the souls of the departed ones and promised the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to conducting robust awareness programs on the dangers of oil scooping and related activities. He advised motorists and road users to exercise caution and obey safety guidelines to avoid future tragedies.
