On Monday in Abuja, the media tycoon passed away.
The managing director of DAAR Communications Group, Tony Akiotu, confirmed the businessman's death in a statement and noted that the late man had been sick before his passing.
He did, however, add that before he slipped and died on Monday during ordinary exercise, he was on the road to full recovery.
Although he had recently been unwell, he was now on the road to recovery.
“He had a fall off his threadmill during routine gym exercise.
“Further announcements as regards to burial arrangements will be made by the family,” the statement read.
In the meantime, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared on Monday that its family is grieved by the passing of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a media magnate, statesman, and patriarch of the Dokpesi family. He was also one of the PDP's prominent figures and a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC).
Dokpesi was a brilliant and resourceful entrepreneur who was steadfast in his selfless contributions towards the unity, stability, and growth of our great Party and the country at large, according to a statement released by Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary. He was also an insightful and devoted party member.
The party claims that Dokpesi, a patriotic Nigerian, used his media empire, which includes Africa Independent Television (AIT), Ray Power FM, and Faaji FM, to advance national development, encourage good governance, accelerate economic growth and development in all important sectors, and expose our country to opportunities and attention on a global scale.
The statement added: “He was a detribalized Nigerian, who put the interest and wellbeing of our nation above every other consideration and made numerous positive landmarks in our national political, economic and social landscapes.
“Chief Dokpesi’s death is indeed a colossal national loss and a big blow to the PDP family.”
