Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has sworn in the Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, stressing the need to work hard to stimulate and regenerate the university for the present and future generations.

The following are the members of the council:

Professor Chidi Odinkaluto (Pro-Chancellor/Chairman), Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Igwe Oranu Chris Chidume, AIG Chris Ezike (rtd), and Chief Christopher Ndubuisi.

The Senate Representatives to the Council are Prof. K.K. Nwozo, Prof. Angela Nwamuo, Prof. C.C. Chukwueloka, Prof. Obi Emeka, and Prof. Anselem Nweke, while the Congregation Representatives to the Council are Prof. M.N. Chendo and Mrs. Eucharia.

Governor Soludo noted that the institution is the most important university in the state. He challenged the new leaders to create a modern education system that aligns with the state's future goals.

“The primary issue you have is to work hard to reenergize and revive the university for the present and future generations.

“Is our current education system equipping our children to survive in the future? The university needs its own unique brand identity to prepare them for what's ahead.”

Limited resources are a hurdle, but achieving fiscal sustainability doesn't mean giving up on excellence. You still need to find ways to be competitive and achieve outstanding results.

The governor, brimming with enthusiasm for the university, stated he has high hopes for its future. He envisions it becoming a beacon, or even the leader, of Nigerian higher education.

While reaffirming his absolute confidence in the ability of the council, Soludo promised to assist the council in whatever feasible way, subject to resource constraints.

Reacting, Professor Odinkalu appreciated the governor for extending to them the privilege to serve.

On his part, “The COOU law of 2014 has some very inspiring lines that we intend to work with.”
