The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has distributed more than N9 million to some disadvantaged citizens who sought assistance from the state government.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the beneficiaries who were present at the Governor's Office in Ado-Ekiti returned home with varying sums of money and crafting supplies.
Mrs. Sola Abe, the Senior Special Assistant in the Governor's Office, explained that the gesture was intended to ensure that poverty is eradicated from society as she presented the beneficiaries with the cash and tools.
According to Mrs. Abe, a portion of the gesture consisted of providing interested parties with financial assistance for starting businesses, working tools, and payment of hospital bills.
She urged the recipients to make effective use of the governor's funds to improve their well-being.
Additionally, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor for Community Communication, stated that the beneficiaries' selection was based on their needs rather than political considerations.
