Taraba State Governor Dr. Kefas Agbu has announced his administration’s focus on livestock farming and production to boost the local economy and enhance the livestock value chain across the state. His statement came just one month after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.

Kefas spoke on Thursday at the launch of the Kefas/Aminu International Cattle Market in the Zing local government area of the state. The governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Alkali, declared that livestock farming and production is a lucrative sector that the state is willing to tap into to boost its internally generated revenue (IGR).

He also stressed that the state government is focused on advancing the livestock industry for the benefit of farmers, traders, end consumers, and the state. The governor stated that the cattle market supports the government's economic growth plan and encouraged residents to take responsibility for the market and use its location to start their own businesses.

Kefas made a 10 million-naira donation to fund the construction of a water supply system, a veterinary clinic, and other necessary facilities within the cattle market. Ibrahim Monkin, the acting chairman of the Kefas-Aminu Cattle Market, expressed his excitement about the new market, particularly for local farmers in the area, noting that the market's location in Zing, largely a crop farming community, will motivate residents to go into animal farming and production.

The state ALGON Chairman, Aminu Hassan, and Chairman of Zing LGA, Davoro Gwandis, expressed their belief that the new cattle market would stimulate business growth and job creation in the area.
