Gombe Government Pledges N70,000 Minimum Wage for Workers
The Gombe State government has announced that it will pay its workers the new national minimum wage of N70,000. This was made known by its Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau.
Jatau, who is the chairman of the state's Tripartite Committee on minimum wage negotiation, informed journalists on Sunday in Gombe that his committee is presently finalising the details for the execution of the new minimum wage.
The Deputy Governor, who was represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, said that the governor is very dedicated to making sure that civil servants in the state receive the new national minimum wage.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya is fully committed to paying the new minimum wage. He is one of the governors who believes that increasing the minimum wage is necessary. Jatau said that civil servants will continue to receive the N10,000 wage award that they have been receiving since September 2023 until the new minimum wage is implemented.
Jatau said that once an agreement on the new minimum wage is reached, the implementation of the new wage will begin, and the N10,000 palliative will stop. Mr. Yusuf Aish, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State, said that all parties have agreed to wait for the Federal Government's approved table on the new pay.
“Once the new minimum wage table is released, we will start full negotiations,” he stated.
The NLC chairman asked the civil servants to be patient until the negotiations are concluded.
