A missing student from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Christiana Idowu, has reportedly been murdered after abduction along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State.
This tragic news was confirmed by Ibrahim Adeyemi, the president of the Student Union Government at FUNAAB, during a telephone conversation on Thursday.
According to family sources, Christiana was kidnapped while en route to the University of Lagos, where she was completing her industrial training. Initially, the abductors demanded a ransom of ₦3 million for her release.
After negotiations, the family was able to arrange a payment of ₦350,000 to a designated account, but despite this payment, the kidnappers did not release her.
A user on X (formerly Twitter) identified as @letter_to_jack reported that intelligence operatives tracked the kidnappers using the bank verification number (BVN) associated with the account used for the ransom payment.
This investigation led to the identification of the suspected abductor, who was found to have a connection with Christiana through social media interactions.
As the investigation unfolds, there has been a significant public outcry for justice, with the hashtag #JusticeforChristinah trending online. Many are calling for accountability and action against the rising trend of kidnappings in Nigeria.
Efforts to obtain comments from Christiana's family and the Lagos State Police have so far been unsuccessful, as they did not respond to inquiries at the time of reporting.
