President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his rationale for the removal of fuel subsidies, emphasizing its importance in safeguarding the future of Nigeria’s youth and unborn generations.
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Youth Congress Planning Committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted his administration's focus on youth empowerment and long-term national prosperity.
The President described the decision to remove fuel subsidies as a necessary step to redirect resources toward critical infrastructure and economic development. He argued that such measures would address underlying issues driving emigration, often referred to as "Japa," by creating opportunities and fostering prosperity within Nigeria.
Tinubu underscored the responsibility of young Nigerians to take ownership of their future, stating that his government’s policies are designed to pave the way for their success.
Reflecting on the challenges faced since assuming office, Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic recovery, pointing to falling prices, improving investor confidence, and advancements in technology.
He urged young people to actively contribute ideas and solutions to governance, assuring them that his administration remains open to implementing suggestions that promote national progress.
The President also inaugurated the Youth Congress Planning Committee, tasking its members with leveraging technology and innovation to address issues such as food security and youth empowerment. Tinubu expressed envy at the potential of Nigeria’s youth, encouraging them to seize opportunities for development.
Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande commended Tinubu’s commitment to engaging young Nigerians in governance. He noted that the committee comprises representatives from federal ministries, civil society organizations, and international bodies like the World Bank.
