In its appeal to the general public, management also requests that customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states exercise greater patience as it works hard to improve power supplies.
Chief Commercial Officer Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf made this point during a news conference in Kano on Wednesday, explaining that the distribution companies only supply what is given to them by the generation companies.
He acknowledged that KEDCO knows its customers are suffering from power outages during Ramadan and has been working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
“However, only 200mw to 250mw is supplied for distribution in the state. Unfortunately, due to the technical situation on ground, only about 180mw and below is available for distribution in the state” he stated.
He stated that, in addition to the problems listed by his predecessor, there are other issues on which he plans to focus during his term as interim CEO.
These include among others repairs of broken down transformers, checking metre bypassing through the introduction of smart metres, reduction of vandalization and enforcement of payments by consumers.
He dismissed statements on social media that were critical of the company and portrayed it in a bad light, insisting that DISCOs do not generate electricity—they only distribute what is given to them by GENCOs.
