The Trademore Estate along the Airport Road was flooded early on Friday morning in Abuja, affecting no less than 116 houses.
Despite worries that at least one life may have been lost in the incident, Dr. Abbas G. Idriss, Director General of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Emergency Management Agency, denied any casualties.
Idriss urged homeowners whose homes are situated on the water channel to move after noting that the floods at Trademore Estate were brought on by violations on the water channel.
Nkechi Isa, the head of public affairs at FEMA, cited her supervisor as saying that the Trademore development lies near a water channel and is hence vulnerable to flooding.
Idriss reports that the floodwaters have subsided but thanks everyone for their cooperation and efforts at Trademore Estate to guarantee that no lives were lost.
Social media arguments claiming that a resident of the Estate went missing amid the floods were disregarded by him as incorrect.
The FEMA director pleaded with residents of the Estate whose homes are on the water channel to migrate since the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, or NIHSA, had not foreseen significant flooding in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) this rainy season.
He asked locals to call the 112 Emergency toll-free number at all times in case of an emergency.
