First Lady Denies Plan to Lead a National Prayer
Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has refuted the viral social media publications stating that she plans to lead a national prayer for the several problems facing the country.
According to journalists, it was alleged that the First Lady and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, would lead a seven-day event themed ‘Seeking the Intervention of God in Nigeria’s Affairs.’
It was gathered that Segun Afolorunikan, the Director-General of the National Prayer Forum, made the disclosure at a press briefing in Abuja last Sunday.
Afolorunikan had said that the initiative, coordinated with Christian and Muslim clerics, seeks divine intervention for the country’s socio-economic and security challenges.
Meanwhile, in a press statement on Saturday made available by her spokesman, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady declared that the report of her organising a national prayer is baseless and misleading.
The statement read, “This is to clarify and notify the general public that the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, is not organising a national prayer.
“The news circulating on some traditional and social media platforms is unfounded and misleading. However, anyone who might have come across the purported news of a joint national prayer for Nigeria should disregard it as false.
“While the First Lady, a Christian and strong advocate of prayer and praying for Nigeria, believes that prayer is an act that must be done willingly, conscientiously, and sincerely,
She also believes that praying for Nigeria is the responsibility of every Nigerian, irrespective of religious belief, political affiliation, tribe, or language.
“Members of the public are urged to verify the authenticity of any information or event involving the First Lady of Nigeria or her office through official channels. Kindly be advised accordingly.”
