A fire incident occurred early Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters located on Odunsanmi Street, off Wempco Road in the Ogba area.
The blaze, which affected part of a three-storey building, was confirmed by Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Emergency calls were received by LASEMA around 2:39 AM, prompting an immediate response from their team stationed at the Alausa command and control center.
Upon arrival, responders found that one of the two-bedroom units in Flat 5 of Block 21 was engulfed in flames.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated in the children's room due to a power surge.
The coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained the fire, preventing further damage.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported; however, the fire completely destroyed the children's bedroom which caused a huge property loss estimated in millions of naira.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of educating residents on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
