A final-year student of Ebonyi State University, EBSU, Abakaliki, known as Miss Favour Ugwuka, is said to have committed suicide.

It was learned that Favour committed suicide in her hostel at the Ishieke Campus of the University in Abakaliki.

Investigations disclosed that the deceased, a final-year student in the Department of English, passed all her courses but repeatedly failed a particular course, whose lecturer had vowed she would never pass.

A heartbreaking video circulating online shows a woman, believed to be the mother of a deceased student, accusing a lecturer of her daughter's suicide.

In the video, the distraught mother recounted how Dr. Enyi boasted of his teaching abilities, then cried out, "He should come and carry my daughter, who has committed suicide.”

Also, a graduate of the institution, identified as Rex Nwome, alleged the girl's suicide stemmed from her struggles to pass the course.

My classmate and best friend in the English Department, Favour, was allegedly targeted by a lecturer who vowed to block her from graduating."

“Suprisingly, Favour passed every other course, but this lecturer's course forced her to stay an extra year and pay additional tuition just to retake it."

“Sadly, the man failed her again. What caused this intense depression was the recent release of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) shortlist, where her name was missing.”

Nwome said that Favour's mental health deteriorated after failing the course and not making the NYSC shortlist. He suggests that these factors, along with potentially others, contributed to her tragic suicide."

The Ebony State Police Command acknowledged reports of the student's death on Thursday. Police spokesman DSP Joshua Ukandu informed journalists that the incident had been reported to headquarters and an investigation was underway.

When contacted on phone, Dr. Enyi C. Enyi, a lecturer in the English Department at Ebonyi State University, denied allegations by Rex Nwome that his actions or inactions contributed to the death of Miss Favour.
