The Federal Government has warned on Wednesday that it may revoke the licences of power Distribution Companies due to the persistent poor power supply across the country.

On Wednesday, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced through his X handle that the Chief Executives of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, and the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria have been summoned to a crucial meeting to address the current nationwide challenges.

He pointed out that the purpose of this meeting is to address the deteriorating power supply in their respective regions and collectively find lasting solutions.

He expressed disappointment over the inadequate electricity distribution by the Discos, despite the generation companies' efforts. He highlighted that the ministry has been exerting pressure on the Generating Companies to improve their performance, leading to a recent increase in generation to over 4000MW. Despite this progress, some distribution companies are failing to adequately distribute the power supplied by TCN, while vandalism of power infrastructure worsens the issue in areas like Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.

He emphasized his dedication to ensuring accountability among all distribution companies for their performance, with zero tolerance for willful non-performance, and the potential for severe consequences like license revocation.

He also stated that TCN's priority will be to repair damaged transmission towers and power lines to enhance supply in affected regions.
