FG Plans Zonal Hearings on Minimum Wage

The Federal Government plans to hold Public Hearings across the 6 geo-political zones of the country to review the Minimum Wage.

In a statement in Abuja on Monday, Mrs Helen Chukwu, the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Finance, mentioned that the series would start in the South West with Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, set to chair the event in Lagos this Thursday.

Scheduled hearings will be held in the North-East (Yola), North-West (Kano), North-Central (Abuja), South-South (Uyo), and South-East (Enugu).

She pointed out that the purpose of these sessions is to collect insights and recommendations for shaping a fair and sustainable minimum wage policy, reflecting the involvement and input of different stakeholders in the region.

Mr. Edun in Lagos would be accompanied by Governor Adeleke Ademola of Osun State, Omo-Lamai Grace from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, and Muhammed Nura from the Nigeria Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, representing various interests.

Adeyanju Adewale (NLC) and Shuaibu Afusatu (TUC), along with the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Onyejeocha Nkeiruka, would be part of the organized labor.

Mrs. Chukwu stated that the hearings would guarantee a fair, sustainable national minimum wage, reflecting our economic realities and aspirations.
