The Federal Government, yesterday, offered a N2 million bounty on an Anambra-based lawyer, Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor. She is wanted for allegedly mutilating her eleven-year-old house-help's genitals with a hot pressing iron and knife.
Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, announced this during a media briefing in Abuja, following the release of a viral video of the girl.
She urged Nigerians to go out there in search of the woman, bring her out and hand her over to any police station, stating that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is offering N2 million to anybody who will deliver her to the police.
“We need this woman urgently because the girl is in pain and has been in the hospital. It could be your child or anybody’s relation, so let us not fold our hands,” she said.
The minister added that she was quiet about the matter because she thought that it would have been solved by the state, but she decided to wade in seeing that nothing had been done about it.
According to the minister, A government statement regarding the acceptance of house help under 18 years of age will be issued soon to prevent instances of child abuse and violations such as this.
