During a visit to the corps' headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Victor Opeyemi (the Ministry of Education's Principal Executive Officer for Special Duties) gave a commendation on behalf of the ministry.
Opeyemi praised PCN for making important contributions to peace corps, including setting up Peace Corps Clubs and maintaining discipline in schools.
“The ministry commends the effort of the corps in youth empowerment, peace and security, and assures PCN of greater partnership and support.
“We will continue to partner with the corps in unity schools across the country,” he said.
Opeyemi prayed that the bill for an act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, which would give statutory backing to the organization and transmit it directly to President Muhammadu Buhari, would receive positive attention from him.
He said this would enable the organization to continue with its value-driven programs geared toward improving Nigerian youths' economic status.
Responding to the minister's visit, Prof. Dickson Akoh, National Commandant of PCN expressed appreciation for the ministry’s ongoing collaboration with corps members since 2002 when it was registered as an NGO.
Akoh assured the federal government that it would continue to remain committed to national creativity, peace and youth development, which has been the cardinal objectives of the organisation.
