Residents of Festac Town in Lagos State have called on the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EkoDisco) to address the ongoing power crisis affecting their community.
The residents expressed their frustrations during a community meeting, highlighting the severe lack of electricity that has persisted since President Bola Tinubu took office.
Artisan Felix Ajayi lamented the dire situation, stating, “Power supply has been abysmal. EkoDisco claims to have placed Festac on Band B, yet we barely receive five hours of electricity daily. Our businesses are suffering as a result.”
Another resident, Ugochukwu Anyanwun from 23 Road, voiced his concerns about the deteriorating conditions in Festac.
He criticized both the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area for their inaction regarding the community's infrastructure issues, particularly the roads.
“It is disheartening that Festac is on the verge of total collapse,” he said, urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene.
Chief Odike Ubandinuju, a pensioner residing on 41 Road, shared his experience with EkoDisco’s customer service.
After reporting the power issues to the Agboju office, he was directed to Marina, where he felt his concerns were not adequately addressed. “The claim of being on Band B is a mere mirage; we are paying so much for darkness,” Ubandinuju stated.
In response to these complaints, EkoDisco’s corporate communications officer, Babatunde Lazaki, stated he was unaware of the residents' grievances.
He noted that further investigation into the power supply issues in Festac would be necessary before providing a detailed response. “Festac is a large area; I will need to consult with our local team for more information,” he added.
