The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced the zero draft of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan (NIEP-SIP) aimed at revitalizing the country's electricity sector.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, with the policy designed to tackle significant challenges within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) and promote a sustainable, inclusive power sector.
During the presentation in Abuja, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu emphasized the importance of this policy, stating it is “critical in our nation’s journey toward achieving a robust, sustainable and inclusive power sector that meets the aspirations of all Nigerians.”
The NIEP-SIP serves as a comprehensive framework that outlines strategic interventions across the entire electricity value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and off-grid solutions.
Adelabu highlighted that the development of the policy involved extensive consultations with industry experts, stakeholders, and development partners.
He noted, “The journey leading up to today has been a collaborative and rigorous process, driven by our collective commitment to addressing the pressing challenges within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.”
The policy framework is designed not only to address current issues but also to anticipate future needs, ensuring that the power sector remains resilient and efficient.
