Ex-Convict Granted Clemency Re-Arrested for Stealing TV in Osun

A former convict, Omisakin Sunday, who was recently granted clemency by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has been remanded in custody for allegedly stealing a plasma television worth ₦600,000.

Omisakin, one of the 53 convicts pardoned by the governor late last year, appeared before Magistrate Adeyeba Adekanmi at the Osogbo Magistrate Court on charges of burglary and theft. The alleged incident occurred at Iludun, Osogbo, involving a television belonging to one Damilare Shittu. The charges are punishable under Sections 411(1)(2) and 390(9) of the Osun State Criminal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, the Prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, opposed the bail application, arguing that Omisakin was serving a jail term before his pardon and that his first act post-release was to commit another crime.

Magistrate Adekanmi declined the bail request, citing the seriousness of the offense, and ordered that the suspect be remanded in correctional custody. The case was adjourned until February for hearing.
