

Global professional services company Ernst & Young (EY) Nigeria has launched the 2024 edition of its Young Tax Professional of the Year (YTPY) competition, aimed at identifying and nurturing future leaders in the tax profession.
This year, EY Nigeria received 425 applications from 53 institutions nationwide. Following a rigorous selection process that included assessments in logical reasoning, quantitative skills, research, and case studies, 274 candidates were shortlisted.
This number was further narrowed down to 57 at the quarter-final stage and 30 at the semi-final stage, ultimately leading to 10 finalists.
The finalists were invited to EY's Lagos office for the grand finale, where they presented their findings to an independent panel of assessors. Among the finalists were:

Olamide Emida (University of Lagos)

Precious Shoyebo (Obafemi Awolowo University)
Tomiwa Adeyeri (Ekiti State University)
Uyodhu Agadaga (Nile University, Abuja)
Miss Uyodhu Agadaga, a final-year student at Nile University, was crowned the overall winner. She will represent EY Nigeria at the global competition, competing against other regional winners from EY offices worldwide.
The first and second runners-up were Kolawole Olaniyan and Nahomi Okikiri, both also from the University of Lagos. All ten finalists will have opportunities for internships and mentorship programs with EY Nigeria.
Akeem Ogunseni, Associate Partner in Tax Services and Director of the program, emphasized that the competition aims to engage students with a strong interest in taxation. He noted that the selection process was benchmarked against international standards to ensure a high caliber of talent.
