Enugu Police Hunt Killers of Market Chairman, Stephen Aniagu

Says an initial enquiry disclosed that the unknown armed hoodlums double-crossed and shot Aniagu and fled with his blue Toyota Corolla car.

The Enugu State Police Command has begun a search for the alleged assailants of Stephen Aniagu, the Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders Association.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, in a press release yesterday, September 15, 2024, revealed that initial findings by the police had disclosed that the killers had ambushed Aniagu beside the Amechi Road axis of the state, shot at him, and fled with his car on Saturday.

He noted that upon receiving a report of the incident, personnel of the command raided the scene and took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Ndukwe said, “The operatives of Enugu State Police Command are on the trail of the armed assailants that killed Stephen Aniagu, the Chairman of Ogbete Main Market Traders Association, Enugu, at Topland, beside Amechi Road, about 8:20 p.m. on September 14, 2024.

An initial enquiry disclosed that the unknown armed hoodlums working with a Toyota Corolla car double-crossed and shot Aniagu and fled with his blue Toyota Corolla car.

He was taken to the hospital by policemen who hurried to the scene but was confirmed dead by doctors. His remains were deposited in the mortuary for preservation and more investigative actions.”

He emphasised that a strategic team had been posted to trail and apprehend the culprit behind the assassination of Aniagu while promising the public that justice would be served.

“The Enugu State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed tactical squads of the command that are on the trail of the killers to post all the intelligence and operational resources at their disposal to hunt the culprits down.

“Uzuegbu also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in control of the State CID to conduct a discreet inquiry to unwind the circumstances of the incident.
