The Government of Enugu State has urged federal workers in the state still observing the sit-at-home on Mondays to cease forthwith.

The plead was made public on Monday by Mr. Ken Chukwuegbo, the Principal Secretary to Governor Peter Mbah, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Secretariat in Enugu, together with the state Head of Service, Mr. Kenneth Ugwu.

Chukwuegbo stated that the state was suffering significant losses due to employees' Monday absences.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Governor Peter Mbah declared Monday sit-at-home enforced by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra prohibited in the state upon assumption of office in 2023.

Chukwuegbo emphasised the importance of consistent Monday attendance for federal workers, mirroring the work ethic of their state counterparts.

He said there is no sit-at-home in Enugu any longer.

The Principal Secretary to Governor said that the state was not under siege, adding that the poor attitude to work by the federal workers in the state was denying the people their services.

“This is no longer acceptable.

“If state employees can maintain regular Monday work schedules, I don’t see the reason federal workers cannot do the same.

Enugu is a peaceful state, and the actions of these individuals are unfairly tarnishing its reputation, which the government will not tolerate.

Individuals visiting the Secretariat on Mondays to conduct official business often find no one available to assist them,” he asserted.

Chukwuegbo, however, appealed to the workers to come to the office on Mondays, promising them of their safety.

Reacting, Mr. Emeka Nwokoro, Chairman, Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in the state, affirmed that he would continue to appeal to them to always come to work every Monday.

Nwokoro said that the association's recent meeting eased the workers' anxiety about the state's security situation.
