On Saturday, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State took a major step towards making Enugu a prime destination for business and tourism. He laid the foundation for a luxurious five-star hotel next to the renovated Enugu International Conference Centre, which boasts a 5,000-person capacity.

Mbah, in his address, affirmed that the five-star facility, which he described as an investment enabler, was in line with his government's vision to make Enugu the preferred destination for investment, business, tourism, and leisure.

He also highlighted his plan to transform Enugu's economy, aiming to grow it from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within a decade. He aspires to make Enugu the top conference hub in Africa, surpassing established locations.

The governor emphasised the crucial role of the hotel in complementing the conference center. Large conferences require ample accommodation, and the new hotel will provide at least 10,000 keys, catering to attendees and their companions. Additionally, a five-star hotel will attract airlines by offering premium accommodations for crews.

Construction is expected to be swift, with completion targeted for April 2025. The governor emphasised that there will be no delays or budget overruns. The hotel will feature 335 rooms of various types, including suites, ensuring a genuine five-star experience.

Also, Mr. Gerald Otiji, Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, hinted that the hotel had become imperative, stressing that besides the main conference centre, which can seat over 5,000 persons, other adjoining facilities could seat over a thousand people.
