Heightened Tensions were noticed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State's capital, on Tuesday, as the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests entered the sixth day.
Protesters surrounded a mansion in Ada George, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, owned by Nyesom Wike, the state's former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
More than 50 protesters targeted the mansion.
The march began at Agip Junction and ended in front of Wike's residence, when they sang the old national anthem, "Arise, O Compatriots."
Armed police officers made a barrier to keep demonstrators at a distance and prevent them from accessing the residence.
An armored personnel carrier stationed nearby prevented the demonstrators from approaching the premises.
After about 50 minutes, the protesters dispersed and continued their march.
They also caused quite the stir when they passed through Wike's Hyper City Mall, but were met by heavy police presence.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, said that no property belonging to Wike was attacked.
She stated, “The protesters only marched past the building. The police ensured they remained on the other side of the road and did not confront them.”
