Governor Abiodun Oyebanji has established an eight-member committee on food security, expressing concern over the alarming level of food insecurity, particularly in Ekiti State.

Led by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, the committee is tasked with devising a strategy to address the food crisis in the state.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Wednesday, revealed that the decision was among the resolutions reached during the State Executive meeting held on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the government has allocated a sum of N133,707,507.14 for the refurbishment of Agricultural Farm Buildings (phase II) located at Erinfun, along Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado-Ekiti. This initiative aims to make farming more appealing to youths and enhance food production in the state.

According to Mr. Olatunbosun, Governor Oyebanji highlighted the significance of the project in fostering employment, increasing food production, and promoting agribusiness in the state.

"The governor stressed the crucial role of agriculture in the community's livelihoods, emphasizing that the only way to address the current economic challenges is by enhancing productivity.

"We embarked on our governance journey with the vision of shared prosperity and continuity, with agriculture being a cornerstone for us. The challenges facing the country today stem from inadequate productivity; prosperity is contingent upon productivity.

"Productivity is pivotal to prosperity, and it is not solely the government's responsibility. The government's role is to engage serious private investors and collaborate with them to ensure enhanced productivity," the statement concluded.
