The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved a budget of N4.15 billion for various development projects, including road rehabilitation, renovations of the House of Assembly complex, agricultural initiatives, and the construction of student hostels.
On August 26, Commissioner for Information Taiwo Olatunbosun announced the approvals in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
He highlighted that a significant portion of the budget, amounting to N2.71 billion, has been allocated for a contract with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
This contract focuses on the rehabilitation of the De-Head to Faglo, Basiri Junction Road in Ado Ekiti, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve socio-economic activities in the area and it is expected to improve the quality of life for residents and is scheduled for completion within 12 months.
Also, the council has approved N701 million for the comprehensive renovation of the State House of Assembly Complex and the House of Assembly Service Commission building.
The renovation contract has been awarded to ClemCharles Nigeria Limited, with an anticipated completion timeframe of 12 weeks. This initiative aims to modernize the facilities to support effective legislative and administrative functions.
In the agricultural sector, the council has allocated N229 million for the procurement of essential farming equipment, including tractors and ploughs, to bolster agricultural productivity.
The procurement contract, awarded to AGCOMS International Trading Limited, is expected to be completed within four weeks.
Furthermore, a budget of N177.9 million has been approved for land clearing to support the 'Youths In Agriculture' initiative across several local governments, including Ikere and Moba to empower young farmers and enhance agricultural output in the state.
Lastly, the council has ratified a N329.4 million contract for the construction of a 100-bed hostel at Command Secondary School in Isan Ekiti.
