The Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned Nigerians to be keen on security as they commemorate the Muslim festival of Eid-El-Fitr.

The charge was in a message signed by Dr. Peter Afunanya, Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at DSS, and issued to journalists on Tuesday.

The DSS congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the harmonious completion of Ramadan, which is a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection for the Muslim faithful globally. While joining them to appreciate Allah for the opportunity to complete this auspicious obligation, the service shared with them the core values of the festival, which consist of love, mercy, and sympathy.

These lessons echo deeply with the ideals of peace, harmony, and generosity that are primary to our country’s collective good. As this joyous occasion is being celebrated, it urges everyone to celebrate satisfactorily, exemplify the true essence of the event, and strive for common humanity based on peaceful coexistence, good conscience, and neighbourliness.

The Department of State Services urged citizens to carry forward the spirit of charity, sympathy, and unity beyond the festivities and abstain from any acts that are capable of wearing away these principles.

The DSS also urged everyone to be keen on security and to report suspicious activities to security and law enforcement agencies.

The Service said it will sustain partnerships with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure hitch-free celebrations.

“The director general, management, and the entire staff of the DSS wish the Muslim faithful a peaceful celebration and pray that the season brings joy, goodwill, and prosperity to all,” reads the statement.
