The Egbema Youth Political Forum (EYPF) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to meet the demands of protesting Nigerians by reducing the price of fuel to N200. The group praised the protesters for their resilience and for exercising their constitutional rights as enshrined in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In a statement issued in Warri, Delta State, EYPF leaders Ebigbagha Baidi (Chairman), Karina Yoroki (Secretary), Ebiterigha Ejemi (Spokesman), and Odimiyentimi Eyenmi (Legal Adviser) expressed their concerns. They joined other aggrieved Nigerians in calling for a reduction in the price of premium motor spirit (PMS) to N200, arguing that such a move would lower the cost of other commodities and ease the economic burden on Nigerians.
The group also urged President Tinubu to holistically address the legitimate demands of the masses to alleviate the widespread hardship. They emphasized that hunger and exorbitant prices of commodities are major issues facing the country.
The EYPF criticized President Tinubu's August 4, 2024, speech, stating that it failed to address the essential demands of the protesters and instead seemed to threaten Nigerians to adapt to the current situation.
The Ijaw youths further called on President Tinubu to instruct security personnel to handle peaceful protesters professionally and avoid human rights abuses, emphasizing that the primary duty of the President and security agents is to protect lives and properties.
