The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that young men involved in online fraud, also known as "yahoo", falsify their age in order to obtain driver's licences and bank accounts with the money they earn from their crimes.

Effa Okim, the EFCC's zonal director for Edo, Delta, and Ondo states, made this announcement in Benin City during a courtesy visit to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), which was chaired by Comrade Festus Alenkhe.

According to Okim, parents who often argue that their children are too young to be convicted would likely be prosecuted for their involvement in document fraud.

The data collected indicates that Edo is trailing Lagos in terms of convictions. This is concerning because Edo is smaller than Lagos. It is not good for its reputation, and Edo is too significant in Nigerian history to be brought down to that level of criminality.

He also said that the commission was prepared to work with the media in accordance with its goal and vision to lessen the visibility of crime on our streets.

Alenkhe asked the newly appointed zonal director to continue the open-door approach of providing journalists with access to information at all times.
