The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the immediate arrest and thorough investigation of two officers involved in a viral video showing them manhandling a female hotel worker in Lagos.

This announcement was made by the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Thursday.

The viral video depicted EFCC officials invading the Annex and Regional hotels, owned by the same individual, around 4 am on June 27, while guests were asleep. The officers allegedly fired shots, injured customers, and arrested several individuals.

Hotel staff claimed that the officials broke into rooms, assaulted guests and workers, and took away ATM cards, money, and phones. CCTV footage showed officials breaking into the manager’s room, pushing and slapping her, and taking personal items from a drawer.

According to the EFCC's statement, the officers were part of a sting operation at Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos, which led to multiple arrests of suspects who are still being profiled.

Part of the statement read, “The EFCC boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.

“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to perform its duties professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law.”
