DPO, Officers Killed as Gunmen Ambush Policemen in Delta
A group of police officers, including a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were attacked and killed in an early morning ambush in Delta State, while another DPO is fighting for his life in an undisclosed hospital following a rescue mission in Delta State.
According to reports, the tragic incident was announced by Delta human rights activist named Comrade Israel Joe in a Facebook post.
He wrote: A catastrophic blow to the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly appointed DPO of Agbarho, who resumed work just two days ago, along with the DPO of Orerokpe, CSP Paul, and his police team were ambushed at 1:00 am while attempting a rescue operation close to Agbarho Rail Station.
“The confrontation escalated into a shootout, leading to the tragic deaths of the newly appointed DPO and some of his officers. Additionally, the DPO of Orerokpe was critically injured and is currently undergoing emergency medical treatment.
“I am deeply pained by this news. Just yesterday, I had a discussion with the DPO about the behaviour of his officers, and he promptly addressed the matter, warning his men against any wrongdoing under his watch. This loss is heartbreaking, as I can personally attest to the integrity of these officers.
Joe offered his sympathies to the Nigeria Police Force, the Delta State Command, and the families of the officers who lost their lives while carrying out their duties. He emphasised that none of the criminals involved in the incident should be allowed to escape justice.
Attempts to contact the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for a comment were unsuccessful at the time of the report.
