President Tinubu's administration has faced criticism from the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) for its handling of the recent nationwide protests against hunger and hardship.
CUPP spokesperson Comrade Mark Adebayo accused the president of failing to show leadership by not addressing Nigerians directly during the buildup to the protests.
Instead, Adebayo claimed, the president allowed his spokesmen and government officials to make provocative statements that further angered the people.
CUPP argued that a responsible and proactive president would have demonstrated leadership by directly addressing the nation and offering concessions to stave off or minimize the protests.
The coalition held the Tinubu administration responsible for all deaths and destruction of properties witnessed during the protests, stating that the government had ample time to forestall the violence but refused to engage Nigerians and resolve the crisis.
CUPP urged the security agencies to exercise utmost restraint in their encounter with protesters and called on Nigerians to avoid looting and criminality during the protests. The coalition emphasized that nothing must be done to undermine Nigeria's democracy.
