The company began full production in February, assembling as many as 120 vehicles each day at its plants. In a statement released by the company, it said that it would employ the latest technology and safety features as part of an effort to reestablish relationships with dealers across the country.
Aliko Dangote, a billionaire businessman, is working with the Stellantis Group—the owner of Peugeot vehicles and Kano and Kaduna state governments to begin assembling cars in Nigeria. This will compete directly with Innoson Motors Ltd., which dominates local vehicle manufacturing and assembly.
The companies are building their vehicles at a new assembly plant located in the northwest part of Nigeria. The facility, which is said to be able to produce 120 cars per day across all its lines once running at full capacity.
Ibrahim Issa Gachi, the manufacturing director of the plant, said that the newly assembled vehicles will incorporate state-of-the-art technology and safety features that ensure user protection.
Gachi’s statement also said that the company has ensured the spare parts for all the newly assembled vehicles are made in local markets.
In order to promote the sale of its new models, Peugeot has re-established contacts with dealers around the country that it may have neglected in recent years. This will ensure a soft landing for their cars and also help maintain their reputation as an industry leader.
A report said that five years earlier, the business mogul had obtained a license to establish a factory in Nigeria making Peugeots.
However, Innoson Motors has praised the decision of Anambra State governor-elect Chukwuma Soludo to use its vehicles exclusively as his official cars throughout his tenure.
In a statement posted to Facebook on January 26, 2022, Innoson Motors said that the news excited its chairman—Innocent Chukwuma. The industrialist was looking forward to welcoming Soludo upon his assumption of office and having him tour the plant so they could discuss business strategies.
