A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has summoned former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to appear before it on October 24.

This summons is in relation to a new 16-count charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which alleges a criminal breach of trust involving a substantial sum of N110.4 billion.

Initially, the defendants, including Bello and two co-accused, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, were expected to enter their pleas on Thursday.

However, the EFCC informed the court that it had been unable to serve the charges to Bello despite multiple attempts since the filing date of September 24. In light of this situation, Justice Maryanne Anenih issued a public summons requiring Bello to appear voluntarily for his arraignment on the rescheduled date.

Furthermore, the court instructed the EFCC to ensure that this summons is published in a widely circulated national newspaper and that copies are posted at Bello's last known address as well as in prominent areas within the court premises.
