Court Grants Godwin Emefiele ₦300 Million Bail

Emefiele has been ordered to deposit all of his travel documents with the registrar of the court and to remain within the Abuja Municipal Council.

Mr Godwin Emefiele, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank, has been granted bail in the sum of N300 million and two sureties in like sum by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

The sureties must have certificates of occupancy and titles to properties in the Maitama District.

Emefiele has been ordered to deposit all of his travel documents with the registrar of the court and to remain within the Abuja Municipal Council.

He is expected to remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until he meets the bail conditions.

Emefiele was not present for the hearing on his bail application on Wednesday morning. His lawyer, Mr Mathew Burkaa, said it was normal because he was already at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

This judgement comes four months after he was granted bail in the sum of N20 million by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
