A magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti has granted bail to human rights activist Dele Farotimi, setting the amount at N30 million. The announcement was made by Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 African Action Congress presidential candidate, via his X (Twitter) account on Friday.
During the hearing, Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun outlined specific conditions for the bail: Farotimi must secure two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner, submit his international passport to the court, and refrain from giving media interviews while the case is ongoing.
This decision follows Farotimi's arrest earlier this month after a petition was filed by Chief Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who accused him of defamation related to his recent book.
