Commuters in the Panseke area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State have raised concerns over the damaged barricade under the pedestrian bridge in the area, and are calling on the Ogun State Government to urgently replace the damaged barricade, citing safety concerns that could lead to accidents and loss of lives.

The commuters expressed dismay over the sorry state of the bridge, which has forced them to abandon its use and instead cross the road directly, risking encounters with speeding vehicles.

The metal barricade used to bar the median has been observed to be damaged, with some parts completely removed or on the verge of falling apart.

Rilwan, one of the commuters, highlighted the danger posed by the damaged barricade, noting that its current state had compelled pedestrians to opt for crossing the highway instead. He emphasized the need for immediate action by the government to prevent potential accidents and loss of lives.

Another commuter, Peter Godwin, highlighted the additional challenge of pollution around the bridge, which has further discouraged the use of the pedestrian bridge. He noted that the unkempt state of the bridge, coupled with the unpleasant odor from the pollution, has made crossing the road a preferable option despite the risks involved.

Efforts to reach the Ogun State Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, for comment on the matter were unsuccessful as messages sent to his WhatsApp number were not responded to, and attempts to reach him via telephone were unsuccessful.
