Catholic Church to Tinubu: Speak out on Fuel Price Disputes

Urged the president to Permit Dangote to sell his fuel at his price.

The Catholic Church of Ibadan Archdiocese yesterday urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to speak out on the fuel price dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to put an end to the suffering of millions of the citizens.

The church’s archbishop, Most Rev. Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin, stated this in a chat with journalists in Ibadan before his 75th birthday celebration.

The clergy pondered why NNPC should be acting like intermediaries imposing petroleum prices for Aliko Dangote refinery.

The archbishop said, “NNPC is the one generating the problem. Why can’t they permit Dangote to sell fuel at a price suitable for him? If he wants, he can sell it for free to the people. How can the NNPC impose the price at which he sells his fuel? They are the ones damaging things, not Dangote.

“The Federal Government should put an end to that. Permit Dangote to sell his Premium Motor Spirit at his price. Things will improve. There is a lot of starvation and fraud in the country. You can’t wait for the church to do everything.”

The cleric also explained that contrary to the claims of some people that schools set up by churches charge fees that are expensive for church members, he added that fees charged by Catholic schools are more affordable.
