Bishop Matthew Kukah to Deliver UNICAL’s 36th Convocation Lecture

The Current Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has been scheduled to deliver the 36th Convocation Lecture of the University of Calabar, UNICAL. This was announced by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Florence Obi in her office during a pre convocation briefing.

Describing the cleric as one man who has dedicated his life not just for the service of God but humanity in general, the VC affirmed that Bishop Kukah’s convocation lecture which will be held on Thursday at the University’s International Conference Center will be titled “Harmonising Diversities For National Development”.

Professor Obi also revealed that as part of the convocation activities, five projects executed largely by TETFund will be launched by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, together with some TETFund personnel. She also noted that the projects which include three pavilions and two hostels are worth over two billion naira.

According to her, about 32 students earned first class degrees and it's the highest number in the history of the institution. The Others are about 8,415 students who will earn first degrees, 754 with master degrees and 438 with doctorate degrees respectively. Professor Obi however revealed that the number will change before the convocation ceremony as more results are coming in from the different departments.

The award of degrees for undergraduates will be held on Friday, March 22, while doctorate awards will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Similarly, three Nigerians will be awarded honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of the society.
