The Self Acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, Simon Ekpa, has responded to the low turnout of protesters in the South-East.

According to Lagos Local News, marketplaces, supermarkets, and shops in several sections of the South-East were opened on Thursday, while other regions of the country witnessed protests over hunger and financial hardship.

Despite the tensions around Nigeria, our correspondent confirmed that commercial activity continued as usual in Nnewi and Onitsha, Anambra State's main cities.

In a post on his official X handle on Thursday, Ekpa attributed the situation in the South-East to the 'Biafran Referendum', claiming that residents of the region had once again spoken in one voice.

He demanded the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the demilitarisation of Biafra land, and the adoption of the Biafra Referendum.

The secessionist claims that over "49 million Biafrans have voted for the Biafra self-referendum".

He wrote, “Once again, Biafrans have spoken in one voice. What other evidence do you need to know that Biafrans have rejected Nigeria?

“While the regions that believe in Nigeria are protesting to end bad governance, Biafra has once again demonstrated that it is not part of Nigeria and cannot protest to end bad governance in Nigeria.

“While those who believe in one Nigeria are protesting, Biafrans have disassociated themselves, meaning that they have accepted the Biafra Government as the only legitimate government they are loyal to.”
