All Ghanaians who registered for their Ghana Cards last year but haven't yet received them, according to the National Identification Authority (NIA), can go to their district and regional offices starting on Wednesday, April 5, to get them.
This comes after the printing of the over 500,000 cards that were backlogged was finished.
Due to the authority's financial difficulties, the printing of the Ghana Cards had been put on hold.
However, on Tuesday, March 21, it was revealed that the government had released roughly GH100,000,000 to settle with Cal Bank PLC.
Due to this, the backlog of cards was printed quickly so Ghanaians could use them.
“The expedited printing exercise, which began on March 18, 2023, came to a smooth end on Monday, March 27, 2023, with all records in the backlog printed,” the NIA said in a statement on Wednesday, March 29.
“The ultimate objective of this exercise was to print records of registered Ghanaians in backlog since July 2022.”
It stated that the printed cards were being packaged and would be delivered to district and regional offices for distribution between Wednesday and Sunday, April 2.
“All Ghanaians who have registered for their Ghana Cards since July 2022 but are yet to receive them, are assured that effective Wednesday, April 5, 2023, they can visit the district or regional offices where they registered for their printed cards to be issued to them.”
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has designated the Ghana Card as the sole form of proof in a new constitutional instrument (CI) being prepared for discussion in Parliament.
