According to Dr. Adam Bonaa, a security analyst, Bawku, the Upper East Region's capital, is a total war zone.

People who have been to Bawku in the last year, he claimed, can attest to this.

He stated, "Bawku is a war zone; it doesn't seem like the way we are depicting it," during an interview on Thursday. "The entire area is a battle zone," he emphasized.

He claims that the Bawku-based 11th Mechanized Military Unit can attest to his statement and adds that "even they themselves become overwhelmed."

“In recent days, I have intercepted some audios from young people in Bawku threatening that they have what it takes to flush out the military. You must be prepared to actually make such a statement and come out with such a statement,” he added.

This statement is made in light of the allegations that Bawku's military killed some locals.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied allegations that locals were killed by members of its force who were sent to Bawku to maintain order and restore calm.

The reporting is false, in GAF's opinion, and should be disregarded.

We allegedly "neutralized" six armed men in Bawku, GAF, who were accused of killing seven villagers.

In a press release published on February 2 and signed by its Director of Public Relations, GAF detailed a number of violent attacks that had occurred nearby.

However, the release stated that the soldiers engaged a group of armed men and neutralised six of them.

Reacting to this development, he asserted that the trend happening in Bawku is worrying.

According to him, “the sporadic fighting with the military did not start today.”

Dr. Adam Bonaa added that the current escalation could probably stem from the presence of jihadists at the border.

He, therefore, called for a thorough investigation as there are rumours of suspected jihadist presence.

The security analyst further called on the state to pay more attention to the conflict in the area.
