The House of Representatives has recommended that the Federal Government increase surveillance in seven border communities in Benue due to the current rise in insecurity and bandit attacks in the state.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Rep. Blessing Onuh (APC-Benue) during plenary in Abuja on Wednesday.

She said that after the last incident, bandit attacks have increased in occurrence. Many people have lost their lives as a result of the attacks on the communities' farms and villages.

After passing the resolution, the house encouraged the Nigeria Police and all other pertinent security agencies to look into the attacks more thoroughly in order to apprehend those responsible.

The house also asked for prompt action from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development as well as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The house demanded that further supplies of aid and surveillance be sent to the Entekpa Community's displaced victims, who are now seeking safety in Adoka Village.

In honour of the deceased, the house held a minute of silence.

Recall that on February 2, villages in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue were attacked by suspected bandits, resulting in the deaths of many people.
