Assault on Driver: I’m Ashmed by My Actions, Says Alex Ikwechegh
Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency, has expressed regret for abusing a Bolt driver who came to deliver a package to him on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
In a press release titled ‘A Statement of Regret and Commitment to Justice’, Ikwechegh expressed remorse for his actions, which were captured in a video, widely circulated online, and admitted the behaviour as “inappropriate” for a public official.
He has dedicated himself to collaborating with the ongoing police probe and to tackling the situation through professional counselling.
Ikwechegh said, “As a public servant, I understand the responsibility placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people. My action fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am really sorry.” He admitted the shame and harm caused to the driver, his constituents, and the nation.
Dedication to Positive Change:
Ikwechegh pledged to address the “root causes” through therapy and announced his participation in community programs aimed at promoting respect, empathy, and understanding.

In his closing remarks, he advised Nigerians to cultivate a culture of respect, tolerance, and dignity, emphasising that collective action can build a society where everyone is treated with fairness and compassion.
