Personnel from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has continued to crack down on oil sector saboteurs in South South Nigeria.

On August 23, 2023, the military conducting anti-oil theft operations in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State descended on an illegal oil refinery plant near Ogbokoko and Atu. During the operations, forces destroyed eight active ovens used for illegal processing of stolen crude oil, fourteen storage reservoirs storing stolen crude oil estimated to be 200,000 litres, and 90,000 litres of locally produced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

When the oil thieves saw forces approaching, they fled. The illegal refining plant was dismantled on-site in accordance with current Operation Delta Safe procedures.

A statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu said the Illegal refining site was destroyed in line with extant guidelines of Operation Delta Safe.

He also urged members of the public to report criminality to the appropriate authorities.

He said: “Members of the public are please implored to report any suspected act of sabotage or criminality to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations to curb economic sabotage in the country.

“Nigerian Army will continued to crack down on saboteurs of Nigeria’s oil sector in South South Nigeria”, he said.
