The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration to promptly distribute the rice allocated to the state by the federal government as a palliative measure.
The party emphasized that allowing the rice and other essential food items to rot in storage while people suffer from hunger is unacceptable.
According to a statement from the party's Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and conveyed by Kola Olabisi, the party expressed concern over the delay in distributing the rice provided by the federal government. They questioned whether Governor Adeleke intended to wait until the people faced severe hunger before releasing the palliatives.
The statement called on all stakeholders in Osun State to appeal to Governor Adeleke to ensure the timely distribution of the rice palliatives to those in need. The party emphasized that the purpose of these supplies is not to be hidden away in a secret warehouse but to provide relief to the needy.
Moreover, the party cautioned against any attempt by the state government to divert the rice palliatives. They highlighted that such an action could harm the reputation of the current government.
Regarding claims that 'Imole De Rice' had been inscribed on the palliatives, the party warned that any such effort to manipulate the aid would be met with legal resistance.
In response, the state's Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed that the government had received 2400 bags of rice. He clarified that the delay in distribution was due to the remaining consignment yet to arrive. He reassured that Governor Ademola Adeleke is committed to ensuring the welfare of the citizens and that the rice palliatives would be distributed as soon as the complete shipment arrives.
